Cardiologist Medical Malpractice: Oregon Medical Malpractice Attorney

Cardiac Mistakes Caused by Cardiologist Medical Malpractice Could Cause Catastrophic Oregon Medical Malpractice

Heart disease is responsible for approximately one in every four deaths (25%) and is the leading cause of death in the United States.  Further, approximately 735,00 Americans have a heart attack each year, with 525,000 of those being first time heart attacks.  These statistics means that there are a lot of trips to the cardiologist in store for Americans.

While most cardiologists and cardiac teams perform good work, unfortunately some do not and the sheer volume of cases may lead to careless or errors in rushing care and treatment.  There are many common mistakes that cardiologists routinely make that, because of the duplicity of mistakes, healthcare providers should learn from their errors and stop the reckless or careless conduct endearing patients.  Some of these cardiac errors which could be Oregon medical malpractice include the following:

Delays in Diagnosing a Heart Attack – A patient that comes to an emergency department complaining of the symptoms that may be a heart attack needs to be immediately evaluated.  Even though hospitals and emergency rooms are busy places, triage nurses need to receive patients and quickly assess their need for care.  When patients die in hospital waiting rooms from the effects of a heart attack, it can be medical malpractice caused by emergency room mistakes.

Misdiagnosing a Heart Attack – Even once a hospital has received a patient experiencing the clear signs of a heart attack, the hospital must diagnose the health emergency.  Unfortunately, heart attacks are commonly misdiagnosed in young people and women as muscle pain, acid reflux, and other general conditions.  When this happens and a patient is discharged from a hospital, it can have permanent and deadly consequences.

Improper Stent Procedure – There are two common ways that a sent may be due to medical negligence.  The first is improperly performing the procedure or causing serious and irreparable harm to the heart, arteries, or other vital structures.  The second way is unnecessarily performing a stent procedure, which has been found to occur approximately half of the procedures.  The unnecessary procedure can just cause more serious injury or the potential for medical errors.

Blood Thinner Overdoses – Patients who have suffered a heart attack or other cardiac event will likely be prescribed blood thinners.  These blood thinners will prevent the body from clotting so easily, those preventing blockages in the coronary arteries which cause many heart attacks.  When a hospital or doctor mistakenly overdoses a patient with blood thinners, severe internal bleeding could lead to the wrongful death of a patient or even brain damage.

Aortic Dissection Misdiagnosis or Missed Diagnosis – An aortic dissection is a life-threatening emergency cause manifests itself with an almost normal EKB, but signs of a heart attack.  The main tell-tale signs are numbness on one side of the body only, and a decreased pulse in that arm and leg.  Symptoms of sweating for no reason and inability to catch one’s breath even while laying down are common.  Missing these obvious signs can be a death sentence to a patient.
